Pool automation can make a complicated pool feel simple. Pumps, heaters, spa functions, lights, sanitation and water features can all be controlled from a panel, remote or phone.

When automation stops working, however, the problem can be difficult to isolate because the control system connects to so many pieces of equipment.

Aqua Mechanix services and installs pool automation systems throughout Greater Austin and works across major manufacturers including Pentair, Jandy and Hayward.

The app is not always the problem

One of the first symptoms homeowners notice is an app that will not connect or a command that does not work.

The issue may involve networking or connectivity, but it can also originate at the automation panel, a communication cable, a controller, a piece of equipment or the programming itself.

That is why reinstalling the app does not always solve the problem.

Equipment is not responding to automation

A pump, heater, light or other component may operate manually but fail to respond through automation.

Possible causes include communication problems, configuration issues, relays, wiring, firmware or faults within the connected equipment.

The correct repair depends on identifying where communication is breaking down.

Schedules are not running correctly

Unexpected pump schedules, spa behavior or lighting can sometimes be traced to programming rather than hardware.

Modern automation systems offer a great deal of flexibility, but settings can become complicated as equipment is replaced or new features are added.

The control panel is showing errors

Error messages can point toward a specific problem, but they still need to be interpreted in the context of the full system.

Aqua Mechanix technicians work across the equipment pad, so we can investigate both the automation system and the equipment it controls.

Older automation may not play well with newer equipment

Pools evolve.

A new variable-speed pump, heater, salt system or lighting system may be added years after the original automation was installed. Compatibility and communication should be considered before new equipment is selected.

Sometimes an automation upgrade can simplify the entire system. Other times the existing controller can continue to work with the right configuration.

Repair or upgrade?

We do not automatically recommend replacing an automation system because something stops responding.

Aqua Mechanix starts with diagnosis. If the existing system can be repaired and still meets the homeowner's needs, that may be the best option.

If the controls are obsolete, unreliable or limiting newer equipment, we can recommend an upgrade based on the complete system.
